What is your screenplay about?
I Spy with my Little Fly is about Jeff Bold, a gungho secret agent who teams up with a housefly called Zip to take on an evil organization bent on world domination.

Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?
A James Bond movie, if made by Pixar! This is how I have described it to people in the past. There is always an audience for animated movies, from young children interested in the visuals and characters, to the adults that enjoy the dialogue and in-jokes. A good old yarn like You Only Live Twice and The
Spy Who Loved Me may be seen to a modern audience as “over the top” perhaps, but not only do I still enjoy them (and wish we could go back to those sort of films) but this style is tailor made for animation and would be perfectly captured on the screen for all the family to enjoy.
What movie have you seen the most times in your life?
Very tough question! I would possibly have to say The Terminator, a movie with the complete opposite of tone to what I have written in I Spy with my Little Fly. However, I would say that the chase element of that movie along with how Jaws pursued Bond in The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker were the inspiration to how Bullfrog hunts down Jeff Bold and Zip in my script.
How long have you been working on this screenplay?
Since 2013. Although the idea itself came about 2010 and was in limbo until I got into studying my Masters, then it began to take shape.
How many stories have you written?
4 features, 20+ shorts (some were my own, others were for clients based on their own ideas) and 6 children’s picture book manuscripts.
What motivated you to write this screenplay?
My admiration for animation in all forms (CGI, 2D, Stop Motion, Marionettes, etc), I have wrote a few scripts that I envision as animation, this is my first feature length animation script. My ambition is to contribute to animation with some produced work as well as joining production companies to write for their animated films and TV projects.
What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?
The structure, making sure you have a good length and pace for a feature length story.
Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Travelling and foreign food, from an American steak to Japanese sushi. From a spicy Indian curry to German Bratwurst. So much good food can be found all over the globe!
What influenced you to enter the festival? What were your feelings on the initial feedback you received?
I liked how it was specifically for animated scripts and the feedback was the biggest appeal for me. I really needed to get other people’s opinion on the script and those that had offered to critique it in the past (from friends to other writers), never got round to reading it. Therefore, I felt that I would rather pay for the service and guarantee a healthy dose of constructive criticism. To then be notified on FilmFreeway that you placed I Spy with my Little Fly as a “Finalist” was the icing on the cake and I am very grateful for its status.
The feedback that I did receive was perfect for me as not only did it alert me to things that I may have overlooked, but it also brought issues that I myself noticed (but I needed to make sure others would feel the same way, rather than it be a case of me second-guessing myself). You helped me iron them out and although there were some elements I liked to have kept, removing them has helped improve the script.
However, I am still working on it. I am unsure about some of your notes, not because I am unhappy with them, I just haven’t cracked them and still need time to ponder.
All in all, you have steered me in a good direction, thank you again.
