Born in 1976 in Belgium, photographer Lionel Samain lives and works in Paris. In parallel to his portrait and fashion photography career, he has been involved in several film projects through the years, from directing shorts (Deux Femmes dans mon lit, 1998, Les Mouettes, 1998, Un Drame, 1999) to creating music videos for artists as Rhesus, Arker, etc… He also wrote the screenplay « Hitler in Hollywood », a feature film directed in 2009 by Fr Sojcher.
Director Statement
I have a passion for documentaries. Especially for films that deal with art.
By avoiding the monograph, while relying on my experience as a portrait photographer, I enjoy sharing the intimacy of pictorial creation with the artist. It is to share the little song that trots at the bottom of the painter’s head, all the time he is holding the brush. Capturing silences, spontaneous words… And from this material, to shape a story, which is suspense and passion.
